Summary:
1. Project goal: to start and run a needle exchange programme for intravenous drug users in that part of Miskolc where this service is absolutely missing.
2. Target group: the concerned population of Vasgyár district of Miskolc and the surrounding parts of it. At firsth socially disadvantaged young roma intravenous designer drug users.
3. Main activities:
a. to reduce the direct and indirect infections by providing sterile tools and information for intravenous drug users and collecting the used syringes and needles.
b. to reduce the rate of drug addiction in the population by control the drug users to drug treatment
c. to prevent the social exclusion of drug addicted people. (help to stay in or get back to the labour market, avoid becoming homeless, promote family maintenance, abstinence maintenance)
4. We are able to reach at least 120 intravenous drug users and control at least 10 persons to drug treatment in a year.
5. We want to corporate with other needle exchange services because of the large-scale of HIV/AIDS infections in Ukraine.
The number of HIV/HCV infections amongst new drug users is increasing. Our programme wants to stop this process.
